About the Iceberg Pictrures...
Back to Iceberg Thumbnails

Of all the places I've had the opportunity to photograph Alaska is without a doubt the most picturesque. Besides that, it is a sportman's paradise for hunting and fishing.

I'd like to thank Sub Zero Charters for transportation and hospitality, the use of their boat was most appreciated. Rather than spend a few hours on the tour boat I chose a fishing boat for the day. There were no paid fisherman on board, just myself and my camera.

We left Valdez early in the morning and headed up Prince William Sound towards the Columbia Glacier. Because of the amount ice floating around us we could get no closer than half a mile from the glacier. The icebergs however, were spectacular. The lighting conditions were the most unusual I have ever seen, some of the ice formations didn't even look real. Under the existing light I commented, "They look like leftovers from a movie set".

The camera I used was a Canon 10D digital. At the time it was a nice enough camera but a bit short on megapixels. Because of that, enlargements are limited to 8x12 or less in order to maintain clarity. I'm looking forward to returning with my newer camera. The pictures of the icebergs were taken in mid August 2004 and the Alaska boat pictures were taken in June 2006 with a Canon 5D and 20D.
